In this episode we talk about when (which is rarely) we recommend using banner ads for your marketing strategy.

We started off sharing some stats on general consumer feelings about all forms of advertising then went through some stats from a few years ago specifically about consumer perceptions about banner ads. The graph below is from this study.

We also talked about a new study by Comscore that says heavy clickers distort reality of banner ads statistics.

06: Good URL, Bad URL

In this episode we talked about some things to consider when picking out a URL.

Things to consider with a domain name:

  • Be clear.
  • Be concise.
  • Be easy to remember.
  • Be easy to spell.

A few other things we talked about were domain name promotional codes to save a few bucks when you want to purchase a domain. We recommend getting your domain through GoDaddy.com and a quick Google search on the topic will find you a bunch that should work. Bill usually uses one from C.C. Chapman’s Accident Hash podcast and Nathan typically uses one from Digg.com.

We talked about when we purchase a .com verses a .org, .net, .tv or anything else.

Also, be sure to capitalize the first letter of every word in your URL. It’s a lot easier to read AlwaysCapitalizeTheFirstLetter.com verses
